Summary : 8x8 open source shape display for visually impaired individuals.
In this study, we present an 8x8 open source and community driven tactile display for education of visually impaired individuals. This display is intended to render 2D and 3D shapes to visually impaired individuals. In addition, volunteers can produce content for visually impaired and visually impaired people can easily download and utilize these shapes in the Pictalk Display over the Pictalk platform. Moreover, we have built several applications for educational use of the tactile display. In particular, applications have been developed that can help visual impaired students with in their physics, mathematics and geometry lessons. Moreover, we implemented a online control software of Pictalk Display to enhance the education for online education. The effectiveness of the educational Pictalk Display platform has been verified with visually impaired students.
